The Home Depot Extended Warranty Coverage Options

The Home Depot Protection Plan has two versions: one for appliances and one for general merchandise, such as power tools. The plans cover normal wear and tear, cosmetic defects, and electrical failures caused by power surges.

Home Depot offers three- to five-year major appliance protection plans and two- or three-year general merchandise plans. To obtain a Protection Plan, purchase it in-store or online within 90 days of buying a Home Depot product. Plan coverage begins the day you purchase it and takes full effect after the product’s manufacturer’s warranty ends.

The standout benefit we found was the “No Lemon Policy,” which states that if a covered Home Depot appliance or item needs repair three times for the same issue within the plan term, then SquareTrade will either replace the item or reimburse you for the full purchase price. The Home Depot offers several plans for each major or small appliance type. These plans cover common appliances, such as clothes washers and dryers, dishwashers, and refrigerators. General Merchandise Plans

The Home Depot provides individual plans for many of the retail company’s products. For example, you can purchase plans for gas grills, mowers, power equipment, smart home products, and other Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Additionally, you can choose a two- or three-year plan.

Optional Add-Ons 

While checking The Home Depot’s website, we noticed the Protection Plan doesn’t list optional add-on coverage. However, a section in its sample contract mentions there are several add-ons. The Home Depot Extended Warranty Coverage Caps

Our research shows that The Home Depot Protection Plan doesn’t have coverage caps for repairs on covered items. However, if you purchase an appliance plan, it has a $300 coverage limit for spoiled food. Preventive maintenance parts and cosmetic part replacements are also capped at $500 total per plan for major appliances.


How to File a Claim

You can file a claim in one of two ways: online at squaretrade.com/thd or by phone via the dedicated claims phone number, 833-763-0688. Before submitting a claim, have a copy of the covered item’s receipt since SquareTrade references it. Depending on your issue, SquareTrade may require pictures of your broken item. Once SquareTrade receives your claim, it will send a service provider to your home within two to three business days.

If the technician can’t fix your problem, SquareTrade will continue sending service providers until it’s resolved. If the broken item needs service for the same issue more than twice, SquareTrade will replace it or reimburse you under its No Lemon Policy.
