Overview of PGT Windows

PGT Custom Windows and Doors is well-known for its impact-resistant windows and doors. The Venice, Florida-based company helped develop Miami-Dade County’s code requirements following Hurricane Andrew in 1992. A PGT Industries subsidiary, the company now holds more Miami-Dade County certifications than any other windows company. PGT also offers non-impact windows for homeowners outside of coastal locations.

We’ve researched the best window brands available and compared how PGT Windows stacks up on product selection, customer reviews, and overall reputation.

We outlined the advantages and disadvantages of PGT Windows below:

Pros

  • Customized window styles and options
  • Leading manufacturer of impact-resistant windows
  • Traditional and impact-resistant window products

Cons

  • Limited to vinyl and aluminum options only
  • Product availability limited to an exclusive dealership network
  • Warranty coverage varies among products

PGT Windows Reviews

We analyzed 100 reviews for PGT Windows from the Better Business Bureau and Google Reviews. We should note that PGT Windows is a manufacturer, not an installer. The company uses an exclusive network of authorized dealers and sellers to disturbed its products. While some reviews spoke to the products’ quality, many reviewers note personal experiences with these dealers and other local installers.

Overall, customers were pleased with the windows’ quality and had positive experiences with their local dealers. Some customers noted that the impact-resistant windows provided solid protection during hurricane conditions. Negative reviews spoke to bad experiences with their local dealers, including delayed installations and poor customer service. Other reviewers said the limited availability of local authorized dealers made it harder to get repair services as needed.

What Homeowners Say About PGT Windows

Below is a sample of customer reviews for PGT Windows

I highly recommend pgt

I don’t care what the negative reviews say. I have PGT impact windows and sliders throughout [my home], and during Hurricane Ian, they held up perfectly. No shaking, no rattling, and you could barely hear the storm. We were actually watching the… storm from our living room since we didn’t have hurricane shutters blocking the view.  I highly recommend PGT windows and sliders, and it is worth paying the extra money for impact. We Have Had No Problems

We bought new PGT energy impact windows. Love the windows. The company we bought them from (Donna’s door & window) was great. Maybe you should pay attention from where you buy your windows. PGT is the manufacturer, not a service department…. Your distributor services your windows. [For people with complaints,] it sounds like the person you paid is not taking care of you ‘after the sale.’  It’s been almost a year for us, and we have no problems Read more

Wont Be Using Again

One of the larger windows I purchased from PGT lost its seal between the glass panes.  Although the window was under warranty, the closest ‘authorized dealer’ was more than an hour away and [wanted] $400 for the labor to replace the pane. PGT… did nothing to help reduce the cost, nor would they ship me the glass so I could replace it myself. Thankfully we only did 1/3 of our windows. We won’t be using any PGT dealers for the rest! PGT Windows Products and Services Available

Types of Windows Offered

PGT Windows has a smaller selection of styles compared to other windows manufacturers. However, it offers some of the most popular types of windows for residential installations. PGT Windows custom-fits its windows to ensure the highest quality with each installation. Below is an overview of the company’s selection of new construction and replacement windows, along with its door options.

PGT also offers cabana, French, and sliding glass doors in aluminum and vinyl. The company provides traditional and impact door options.

Energy Efficient Glass Options

Energy-efficient windows offer long-term savings on your energy bills and improve your home’s comfort levels. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, up to 30% of heat loss may come from windows.

PGT offers several energy efficiency upgrades for its window lines:

PGT Windows states that these upgrades will make your windows Energy Star-certified. However, the company does not specify the exact combination to achieve this status. We recommend working with your local PGT Windows dealer to find the best upgrades to maximize your energy efficiency.

Installation Process

Homeowners begin the quote process by contacting PGT via phone or by using the online form. You’ll enter specific details, including the size of your windows project, your preferred products, and the project timeline. Afterward, you’ll receive a call from an authorized dealer or partner to complete your quote process.

Since PGT Windows is strictly a windows manufacturer, you’ll need to find a window installer to complete the work. Some PGT Windows dealers offer installation, but their availability varies by area. Homeowners can use local windows installers or work with national hardware retailers, such as The Home Depot, for installation.

We recommend reading online reviews on sites such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB) or Best Company for each installer you consider. Ask family and friends for referrals to any installers they’ve previously worked with. Also, ensure your selected installer has the necessary licenses and insurance protection for your state

PGT Windows Pricing and Costs

Unfortunately, PGT Windows doesn’t offer pricing details on its website. Window prices will vary based on the authorized dealer, location, selected products, and project size.

PGT offers aluminum and vinyl window frames and door selections. Vinyl windows are the most affordable and provide good energy efficiency. However, vinyl wears down quicker than other window materials and loses its durability when exposed to extreme heat. Aluminum windows don’t offer the same energy efficiency as vinyl, but they’re more durable and last longer. They’re also low-maintenance and lighter than other window materials.

PGT Windows offers three product lines to give homeowners more options. Here’s an overview of each line available.

PGT ClassicVue Max Collection

This line of heavy-duty, non-impact aluminum windows is durable and stylish. It has an improved aluminum design that includes protections against saltwater corrosion. These windows are also resistant to heat, moisture, and light damage. They come with double weather stripping to prevent air and water leaks.

The PGT ClassicVue Max collection offers the following window styles:

  • Awning
  • Casement
  • Fixed lite architectural
  • Horizontal roller
  • Picture
  • Single-hung

PGT EnergyVue Windows Collection

The EnergyVue line offers the best energy-efficient windows to maximize your long-term savings. These non-impact vinyl windows are made to last and help minimize UV rays from entering your home. They come in modern designs and are affordably priced. The collection includes several window styles, such as single- and double-hung, horizontal roller, and casement options. You can select from various frame colors, grid options, and window tints to complement your home’s decor.

The PGT EnergyVue windows come in the following styles:

  • Architectural
  • Awning
  • Casement
  • Double-hung
  • Horizontal roller
  • Picture
  • Single-hung

PGT WinGuard Collection

This product line includes PGT’s well-known hurricane impact windows. These windows are made to resist high-force windows during a hurricane. They meet or exceed both the American Architectural Manufacturers Association and Miami-Dade certifications for impact-resistant window requirements.

PGT’s exclusive laminated glass withstands debris better than traditional windows. This glass also provides additional energy-efficiency by blocking up to 99% of UV rays from entering your home. Other benefits include noise resistance, which protects your home from external noise. This glass option is only available in the WinGuard Collection.

Homeowners can choose from PGT WinGuard Vinyl frames for better energy-saving options or WinGuard Aluminum material for better impact-resistant windows. The collection includes these window styles:

  • Architectural
  • Awning
  • Casement
  • Double-hung (vinyl only)
  • Horizontal roller
  • Picture
  • Single-hung

Our Recommendation

PGT Windows offers high-quality impact-resistant windows that protect your home against extreme inclement weather and provide added protection against intruders. Its line of non-impact-resistant products includes energy efficiency options to help reduce your monthly energy usage and improve your home’s comfort. Since PGT Windows is only a manufacturer, experiences with authorized dealers and installers will vary by area. We recommend checking customer reviews for any local dealers and installers before signing an agreement.

We also suggest comparing at least three quotes to find the best quality products, styles, and customization options.

How We Chose the Top Window Brands

We researched and analyzed dozens of window manufacturers. We then crafted a rating system based on each brand’s standard and energy-efficient product offerings.

We spoke directly to representatives at each company to learn how the installation process works and determine how each brand personalizes its windows for each home. We also closely analyzed each company’s warranty options to ensure their product and labor guarantees match or exceed industry standards.

Finally, we assessed the manufacturer’s years of experience and customer reputation. In addition, we analyzed the 100 most recent Google Reviews for each provider across various locations and branches.
