One of our favorite features of Renewal by Andersen’s windows is its patented frame material, Fibrex. We contacted the company to learn more about its impressive composite and what differentiates it from traditional window frame materials.

Its team informed us that Fibrex offers the best qualities of wood and vinyl while avoiding those materials’ pitfalls. Like wood, Fibrex is exceptionally durable, but it isn’t susceptible to rot despite being made up of 40% wood fibers. We also learned that Fibrex is low maintenance, similar to vinyl. Unlike vinyl, however, Fibrex maintains its strength across large temperature fluctuations. Usually, vinyl expands in high heat and becomes brittle in cold temperatures, jeopardizing its structural integrity.

We also like the multiple glass coating options available at Renewal by Anderson. Its High-Performance Low-E4 glass blocks 84% of harmful UV rays, which helps reduce heating and cooling costs and prevents sun-damaged furniture. If your area stays warm most of the year, the High-Performance Low-E4 Sun Glass is a better option, as it blocks 95% of UV rays. The company offers additional glass options for dry, high-heat environments and cooler locales.

Despite Fibrex’s benefits, the company does itself a disservice by not offering other frame material options. Depending on your environment and priorities, Fibrex may only provide marginal benefits. With a lower-cost frame option such as vinyl, more homeowners could take advantage of the company’s energy-efficient windows.

Pros

  • Composite frame offers the durability of wood with vinyl’s low maintenance
  • ENERGY STAR certification highlights window efficiency and potential energy savings
  • In-house installation team ensures consistent workmanship
  • Warranty terms are published on the website to prevent confusion about coverage
  • Many available window types and color combinations for frame and hardware to fit most homes across various architectural styles

Cons

  • Only offers high-grade frames limiting accessibility to budget-conscious homeowners
  • Customer reviews mention a slow pace from initial sale to installation

Our Detailed Rating of Renewal by Andersen

According to our scoring system, Renewal by Andersen earned an impressive 4.6 out of 5 stars. We rated each company based on various criteria across four general categories:

Services and Features

When scoring for services and features, we considered the types of windows offered, their construction, and the availability of extra features.

Renewal by Andersen earned 4.4 out of 5 stars for the services and features category. It lags behind competitors that offer a more comprehensive selection of window types and frames. Unlike Pella and Window World, Renewal by Andersen doesn’t offer single-hung windows, which could require some homeowners to use multiple window companies or change the type of windows in their home when completing replacements. However, it manufactures nearly every kind of window its competitors offer, which should satisfy most homeowners’ needs.

Additionally, Renewal by Andersen only offers its high-quality composite window frame. While it’s notable for its durability, low maintenance, and insulating ability, you may prefer to save money and opt for a mid-quality frame such as those offered by Pella. With the exception of Marvin Windows, which has a full suite of frames, most of the companies we reviewed only offer one or two types.

Reliability

We examined a company’s reputation, experience, and customer satisfaction when assessing reliability.

Renewal by Andersen scored a perfect 5 out of 5 stars for reliability. Window World and Castle Windows also earned perfect scores in this category. Like most competitors, Renewal by Andersen maintains certifications from ENERGY STAR and the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) for its energy-efficient products. These ratings can help you choose the best window for your climate that maximizes natural light without incurring extra costs for energy consumption.

Renewal by Andersen also stands out in this category for its more favorable Better Business Bureau (BBB) customer ratings, which show that most are satisfied with their experience with the company. Additionally, it only uses in-house employees for installation, which helps maintain consistent quality standards nationwide. Pella’s BBB customer ratings lag behind Renewal by Anderson, and it also outsources some of its installations.

Champion Windows, which isn’t BBB accredited, also has a lower customer rating with the agency. An alert on the BBB page for its headquarters mentions a pattern of customer complaints detailing product defects and long wait times for installations and return phone calls.

Cost and Value

We scored cost and value by looking at return on investment, discounts and promotions, and warranty terms.

Renewal by Andersen scored 4.5 out of 5 stars in the cost and value category. We like that it offers a transferable warranty, giving the company an edge over Champion. This is especially beneficial if you sell your home because the warranty coverage will transfer to the new owner. Additionally, Renewal by Andersen’s warranty covers workmanship, which is absent from Pella’s warranty.

The company lost points because it offers a limited warranty that covers hardware for 10 years, glass for 20 years, and workmanship for two. Limited warranties are fairly standard among our highest-rated window companies, although Castle, Window Nation, and a few other providers provide lifetime coverage.

Other notable features in this category are the company’s in-house financing, which can streamline the purchasing process, and its ongoing promotions, which can lessen the financial burden of replacing windows. At the time of publication, it offered a 40% discount for additional windows with 0% financing and $0 down.

Flexibility

When scoring for flexibility, we looked at customer support options, convenience features, and the availability of additional home improvement services.

Renewal by Andersen received its lowest score in the flexibility category–4.3 out of 5 stars. Similar to competitors, it provides weekend customer support and online maintenance guides. This offers multiple avenues to find answers to your questions when it’s most convenient for you. The company also has an online service request form, which is perfect when you need a technician to visit but don’t have the time or desire to speak on the phone.

Renewal by Andersen lost points for its lack of an online chat feature, which Pella and Champion offer. This comes in handy when talking on the phone is inconvenient, but you still need real-time assistance from a company representative. Renewal by Andersen also fell short of its competitors here because of its limited set of additional services. If you need siding work done in addition to window replacement, you may prefer Champion or Window World for the additional convenience of dealing with one less contractor. Otherwise, this shouldn’t impact your decision.

Mindful and efficient

Andy and his team did a fantastic job. They arrived on time, were friendly, clearly communicated what would happen through the installation, and were mindful of protecting my floors, furniture, and landscaping. Plus, they finished earlier than they… expected! I am so pleased with my new bay window and cannot wait until it’s stained tomorrow! Read more

Great experience

Renewal by Anderson did an amazing job. From the first contact to the last, it was a great experience. Since we got the new windows installed (13 in total) our ac units have barely run. They have been able to keep up with the house. I’m so in love… with the windows. We went all black, and they look amazing on the house. Read more

Professional service

Excellent service, great product. The install team was very professional. Steve, Aaron, and Mark arrived a few minutes early and got right to work. They covered furniture and flooring while wearing booties over their shoes. Even vacuumed before… departing. The windows are exactly as promised. Sure, it is more expensive than other brands, but it is not comparable. For me, replacing almost 40-year-old Anderson windows with new Anderson windows was important. Read more

Smooth installation process

The process, although slow from purchase to install, was smooth and streamlined. Tom's crew showed up when they said they would, were nice and professional, answered our questions with confidence and respect, handled our home with care, left no… mess, and left a lasting impression on us as homeowners. These windows/doors, although expensive, are exactly what we wanted and have made our home renovations complete. Read more

Faulty Installation

We love our windows by Renewal By Andersen, but the installation is still incomplete. The original guy did incorrect measurements for our hurricane shutters back in February 2024. The installers who came to install the windows failed to tell us they… didn't have the hurricane shutters at that time, but someone would be out as they saw it was on the order. We finally had a different install team come back out weeks later to install the hurricane shutters. At this time, they informed us the original guy didn't measure the windows correctly, and they didn't have enough shutters for all of our windows we paid for. Months later, we can't get a straight answer from anyone about why we still only have half of our hurricane shutters. Also, they don't return phone calls when they tell you they will get back to you the same day. The last point I'll share is we were told: "Our financing would not start until all the shutters were installed." This was a lie because our financing started five months ago, and to date, we only have half the hurricane shutters. Read more

Unprofessional

They never showed up for their appointment…….sent me phone numbers to call, and I would call and leave messages. Thank goodness they didn't show up, they are horrible to try and work with.
Michael C. via BBB

We chose these reviews because they include the most common themes we found when reading customer feedback. While Stephanie M. felt the total process took longer than necessary, she felt the quality of her windows and the craftsmanship of the company’s installation crew made up for their relaxed pace. She also acknowledged that the windows were costly but felt the quality justified the price.

Breakdown by Review Site

We read reviews for Renewal by Andersen on Google Reviews, Trustpilot, and the BBB. Here’s what we found:

Renewal by Andersen maintains higher Google Reviews and BBB ratings, likely due to its habit of addressing customer complaints, which mostly mention disappointment about pricing and poor communication by the company when scheduling consultations.

While the company’s Trustpilot score is lower than expected, it wouldn’t be fair to compare it to Champion, which has a score of 4.2 out of 5 stars. Champion also has over 3,800 ratings on Trustpilot compared to the roughly 170 for Renewal by Andersen. Overall, people who choose Renewal by Andersen are pleased with the product and its installation despite the slower pace.

Is Renewal by Andersen Worth It?

As our highest-rated window company reviewed, Renewal by Andersen is worth it. Its frames remain durable throughout seasonal temperature changes because of its patented Fibrex material, providing excellent returns on investment. Additionally, its windows have ENERGY STAR and NFRC certifications, showcasing their energy efficiency and ability to help you save money on your heating and cooling costs.

Renewal by Anderson offers many of the most popular types of windows, including double-hung and casement windows, as well as specialty windows such as arched, round, and pentagon-shaped. This increases the likelihood that you’ll only need to work with one window company to handle all the replacements at your home, although it doesn’t offer single-hung windows. Because it offers a variety of colors for its window frames and hardware, you can easily customize your windows to match your home’s style.

While the company’s Trustpilot score is undoubtedly on the low end, it hasn’t received as many ratings there as it has on Google Reviews, where the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. Additionally, Renewal by Andersen maintains a higher BBB rating than many competitors, including Pella and Champion.

If you’re looking for exceptional quality windows that will last for decades, help reduce your heating and cooling costs, and come with a transferable warranty, Renewal by Andersen is an excellent choice.

How We Chose the Top Window Brands

We researched and analyzed dozens of window manufacturers. Then, we crafted a rating system based on each brand’s standard product offerings and energy-efficient options for windows and doors.

We speak directly to a representative at each company to learn how the installation process with each provider works and determine how each brand personalizes its custom windows for each home. We also closely analyzed each company’s warranty options to ensure their product and labor guarantees match or exceed industry standards.
